The first annual “Family Business Center Challenge” saw the Institute for Family-Owned Business, Maine, and the Family Business Alliance, Grand Rapids, won top spots in the challenge sponsored by Family Enterprise USA.

The “Family Business Center Challenge” promotes Family Enterprise USA’s Annual Family Business Survey among family business centers. The survey is the most comprehensive annual survey of issues and concerns facing family-owned businesses in America.

This year’s “Platinum” winners, for supplying the “Most Respondents” for the survey, was the Institute for Family-Owned Business, Maine, which received a first-place prize of $1,000.  The second-place finisher was University of Toledo, Family Business Center, and third place was the University of Cincinnati, Goering Center for Family and Private Business.

The challenge’s “Gold” winners, those family business centers with the highest percentage increase of respondents over the previous year, saw first place go to the Family Business Alliance, Grand Rapids, which received $1,000.

The second and third position winners were University of Northern Iowa and Wake Forest University, respectively.

“This year’s first Family Business Center Challenge is a great way for family business centers to participate in helping Family Enterprise USA gauge the critical issues facing America’s family-owned businesses through its Annual Family Business Survey,” said John Gugliada, Director of Engagement, Family Enterprise USA and Family Enterprise USA Action.  “We congratulate the winners and look forward to making next year’s challenge equally rewarding for family business centers.”

This year’s Annual Business Survey tallied 710 respondents from 46 states, among the highest response rates for the comprehensive survey of family businesses.
