Caucus Members Participating in Roundtable Discussion Moderated by Dr. Frank Luntz, Family Business Executives Speaking on Key Issues Facing Family Business

The bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus will for the third time this year meet with family businesses in the U.S. Capitol to raise awareness of the importance of America’s largest private employer, family business.

The event, which Family Enterprise USA (FEUSA) has organized in coordination with the Caucus, will include a special roundtable discussion moderated by Dr. Frank Luntz featuring Members of Congress, family Business executives, and experts speaking on key issues facing family business.

The four co-chairs of the bipartisan caucus are Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL), Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX). The Caucus, which was originally formed in late 2022, now boasts an additional 27 members.

The mission of the Congressional Family Business Caucus is to educate Congress on the importance of family businesses to the U.S. economy, which contribute $7.7 trillion annually to the U.S. gross domestic product.

The event will be hosted by Pat Soldano, President of FEUSA, which advocates for family businesses across the country.

During FEUSA’s meeting with the Caucus in May, Rep. Schneider addressed the group by detailing his family’s business history and emphasized how “getting more congresspeople into the caucus is truly important.” He pointed to the many current Members of Congress who come from their own family businesses, including several auto dealerships, manufacturers, and agricultural businesses.

In the same meeting, Rep. Cuellar promised that the Caucus will offer family businesses “any support we can,” including promoting policies that help family businesses and “killing those bills that hurt family businesses.”

The upcoming event is scheduled to take place from 2:00-4:00pm on September 20, 2023, in Room 201 of the House Visitors Center (HVC_201). Additional details will be made available prior to the event.

“This third event with the Caucus continues the awareness building and education of Members of Congress on the importance of family businesses to our economy,” said Soldano in announcing the event. “We have been successful in getting additional support from other Members of Congress, but we urge more members to get involved and join the Caucus, so they are able to better understand the full scope and size of family businesses in this country, and in their districts,” said Soldano.

Family businesses are the largest private employers in the country, accounting for 83.3 million jobs, or 59 percent of the country’s private workforce.

“Family business is big business,” she said. “This caucus is helping get the word out about the importance of family businesses to job growth and the health of our country.”
