An increase in income tax rate means you'll pay a higher percentage of your income to the government. This directly reduces your disposable income, the money you have left after taxes for spending or saving. This can make it harder to afford basic necessities, save for retirement, or invest in your future.
First of Three Meetings Will Discuss Workforce Issues Affecting Family Businesses, with Non-Family Employees Speaking on Behalf of Generationally-owned Family Businesses
The first bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus meeting of 2024 will see nearly a dozen members of Congress and over 40 family business executives meeting March 12 on Capitol Hill.
The topic of the first of three meetings this year will focus on critical workforce issues affecting family businesses.
It’s expected three of four caucus co-chairs, Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL), and Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), will speak at the event. The fourth co-chair, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), spoke at the last Caucus meeting in 2023.
In addition to the three co-chairs, Rep. John Duarte (R-CA), Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA), Rep., Marcus Molinaro (R-NY), Rep. Luis Correa (D-CA), Rep. J. French Hill (R-AR), Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN), Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN), and Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) are also scheduled to attend.
House staff members will also be in attendance. They will represent Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ), Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), Rep. Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan (D-NMI), and Rep. Randy Feenstra R-IA).
The bipartisan caucus, formed in late 2022, now has 39 members from the House of Representatives.
The mission of the caucus is to educate and raise awareness of America’s largest private employer, family businesses, which contribute $7.7 trillion annually to U.S. gross domestic product and account for nearly 60% of all private workforce employees, or 83.3 million jobs.
At the Congressional Family Business Caucus meeting, Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA, will present preliminary findings of the 2024 Family Enterprise USA Annual Family Business Survey. Family Enterprise USA is a non-profit, bipartisan organization advocating for family businesses across the country.
The Caucus event, in coordination with Family Enterprise USA, runs from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM. A reception with members of Congress, staff, family business owners, employees, and others will follow immediately afterward.
During the March 12 meeting, several family businesses will invite their employees to speak to caucus members.
The Congressional Family Business Caucus meetings are organized with the help of Family Enterprise USA (FEUSA) and include presentations by caucus leaders, family business executives, and their employees. The discussions are centered around key workforce issues facing family businesses.
The non-family employees will describe the advantages and barriers they face versus non-family enterprises. Employees from Golden State Technologies, Trophy Automotive Dealer Group, Global A1st Flagship, Laticrete, Bush Bros., and GSM Industrial will present at the event.
“This first caucus of the year will have the largest congressional representation since the Congressional Family Business Caucus was formed over a year ago,” said Soldano. “It’s an important step in helping educate members of Congress on the many complex issues, including workforce issues, facing generationally-owned family businesses,” said Soldano.
