Annual Family Enterprise USA Survey Details Issues Facing Family-Owned Businesses; Meeting of Caucus Members Tackles Affordability Strategies
Family Enterprise USA Annual Survey Early Results Set to Be Released at Capitol Hill Event on March 17
The 2026 Family Enterprise USA Annual Family-Owned Business Survey is set to release its early findings during the next meeting of members of the Congressional Family Business Caucus here on March 17.
The annual survey is the most exhaustive annual survey of America’s family-owned businesses and their top issues of concern.
Each year, the survey polls over 600 family-owned business leaders on subjects ranging from ownership levels, generations involved in the business, jobs lost or gained, revenue growth, salary and benefits, cyber risks, and top tax and economic policy concerns. The survey is sponsored by EY Family Enterprise Center.
“Our annual Family-Owned Business Survey guides us each year on what to focus on when we communicate with lawmakers on Capitol Hill,” said Pat Soldano, President of Family Enterprise USA and Family Enterprise USA Action (formerly Policy and Taxation Group). “We want representatives to know exactly what’s on the mind of the most powerful economic engine in the country, America’s family-owned businesses.”
According to research, America’s family-owned businesses contribute $7.7 trillion annually to the U.S. gross domestic product, accounting for 83.3 million jobs, or 59 percent of the country’s private workforce.
The complete results will be available in April, but early findings from the report will be revealed on March 17, during the first of three meetings with members of the bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus. The focus at the meeting will be on pricing, profits, and affordability strategies by family-owned businesses.
Family Enterprise USA and Family Enterprise USA Action are organizers of the meeting.
Family Business Caucus
The March 17 meeting of members of the Congressional Family Business Caucus will be held at Capitol Building’s Visitor Center and features presentations from Family Enterprise USA, family businesses, legislative and tax experts, and members of Congress. In the afternoon, attendees will meet with their House Members and staff in House Members’ offices.
The March 17 meeting kicks off with a panel of family business owners and discussions led by Soldano and John Gugliada, Director of Engagement for both Family Enterprise USA and Family Enterprise USA Action.
Attendees will see highlights from the annual survey, hear legislative and political updates by the law and government affairs firm Brownstein, and a “What Now” presentation by communications expert and political analyst Dr. Frank Luntz.
In the past, House members attending have included Reps. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Carol Miller (R-WV), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Stacey Plaskett (D-VI), Brad Schneider, (D-IL), Brad Sherman, (D-CA), Rep., and Pete Stauber (R-MN).
“The survey details many issues, including those surrounding affordability,” said Soldano about this upcoming meeting. “Managing margins are top of mind and family-owned business leaders will share strategies and how they’re navigating them in these uncertain economic times,” she said. “It’s important Members of Congress understand the top concerns of family-owned businesses, and the vital role they play in our economy, and the survey results are the roadmap for shaping policy messages.”
