New Women’s Business Owners Group Gets Bipartisan Congressional Support at Latest Southern California Meeting

Rep. Correa (D-CA) and Rep. Kim (R-CA) staff members hear challenges Women-owned businesses face today; Certificate of Special Recognition Awarded

A new Women’s Business Owners Group found bipartisan support as Southern California Congressional House Members Rep. J. Luis Correa (D-CA) and Rep. Young Kim (R-CA) sent staff members to attend the second meeting of the group here.

The Family Enterprise USA’s (FEUSA) Women’s Business Owners Group (The Group) is a newly formed coalition dedicated to highlighting and addressing the unique challenges faced by women-owned businesses in today’s economy.

Women-owned businesses represent nearly 40 percent of all U.S. businesses – over 14 million businesses in total – and account for $2.7 trillion in revenue. Women-owned businesses employ over 12.2 million employees nationwide.
At the meeting, Congressional House Members’ staff were in attendance from Rep. Correa’s office and Rep. Young Kim’s office.

The Group’s mission is to amplify the voices of women entrepreneurs, foster collaboration, and advocate for policies that promote equity in business. The Women’s Business Owners Group was created to further educate and inform the bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus in Washington, D.C.

The meeting began with Sherri Bovino, Chief Executive Officer, Global – A 1st Flagship Co., welcoming 20 women business owners and Congressional staff members to her offices here. Each attendee gave brief comments on key legislative issues of concern to their business.

In addition to the discussion was a presentation of a “Certificate of Special Recognition” presented to The Group by Rep. Correa’s office.

The House Member’s certificate states that he and Congress “recognize your invaluable contributions and dedication to empowering women in our communities, thank you for amplifying the voices of women entrepreneurs.”
Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA, founder of the group, provided a brief update on legislation and the Congressional Family Business Caucus, organized by FEUSA. The next Congressional Family Business Caucus meeting will be held on Sept. 17 on Capitol Hill.

“We want to thank Representatives Correa and Kim for showing their support for this new coalition of women business owners,” said Soldano about the meeting. “Their remarks were very helpful to The Group, and it helps create real bonds between family-owned businesses and our lawmakers,” she said. “It’s nice knowing they care and are more than willing to listen to our concerns on unfair taxes and regulations that hurt women-owned businesses.”

The next meeting of the Women’s Business Owners Group is later this year and is expected again to have Congressional support for the challenges women business owners face today.
