The bi-partisan Congressional Family Business Caucus<\/a> held its second meeting here last week in the U.S. Capitol Building\u2019s House Budget Committee Room, with a focus on keeping America\u2019s largest private employer, family business, adding jobs and staying healthy.<\/p>\n The meeting featured two of the four co-chairs of the caucus, Rep. Brad Schneider<\/a> (D-Ill) and Henry Cuellar<\/a> (D-TX). The other co-chairs are Rep. Claudia Tenney<\/a>\u00a0(R-NY) and Rep. Jodey Arrington<\/a> (R-TX).<\/p>\n During the meeting in in the Capitol\u2019s Budget Committee Room, caucus attendees heard a variety of multi-generational family business<\/a> executives, directors of family business centers, and family business legal experts tell their stories.<\/p>\n The first caucus meeting, held in February, focused on introducing the new caucus and educating Congress on the importance of family businesses<\/a> to the U.S. economy, which contributes $7.7 trillion annually to the U.S. gross domestic product, according to research.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider color=”#ff0000″ divider_style=”dotted” divider_weight=”1px” disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.20.2″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”||10px|||” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_video src=”https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ODkXGMc_Dj0″ _builder_version=”4.20.2″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_video][et_pb_divider color=”#ff0000″ divider_style=”dotted” divider_weight=”1px” disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.20.2″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.2″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n The second meeting, with host Pat Soldano, President of Family Enterprise USA and the Policy and Taxation Group, began with an overview of the importance of family businesses<\/a> to the US economy and the continued need to educate Congress on the power of family businesses. Family Enterprise USA and Policy and Taxation Group, organizers of the event, are advocates for family businesses across the country. Caren Street, a lawyer with Washington DC-based Squire Patton Boggs, also helped introduce and organize the gathering.<\/p>\n Rep. Schneider<\/a> addressed the group by detailing his family\u2019s business history and emphasized how \u201cgetting more congresspeople into the caucus was truly important.\u201d\u00a0 He cited the many elected leaders who come from their own family businesses, including a number of auto dealership<\/a> owners, manufacturers<\/a>, and agricultural businesses<\/a>, all now elected officials.<\/p>\n Next, Rep. Cuellar<\/a> offered family businesses \u201cany support we can,\u201d including promoting policies that help family businesses and \u201ckilling those bills that hurt family businesses.\u201d The congressman then provided a history of debt ceiling talks and how to stay competitive with China.<\/p>\n Caucus attendees included many family business owners and family business center and office executives. The group heard from Steve Wells, President, American Food and Vending, Syracuse, N.Y., David Plimpton, Chief Executive Officer, Inolex, Philadelphia, and Steve Schroeder, founder of Creative Works, Chicago.
