Some 19 women met<\/a> here recently to discuss how lawmakers can better understand the issues women business owners face in today\u2019s uncertain economy.<\/p>\n The Women\u2019s Owners Business Group<\/a> meeting was held at the headquarters of Global, a 1st Flagship Company and was hosted by the company\u2019s President, Sherri Bovino<\/a>.<\/p>\n Women\u2019s Business Owners Group (The Group) was founded by Family Enterprise USA (FEUSA). It is a coalition dedicated to highlighting and addressing the unique challenges faced by women-owned businesses.<\/a><\/p>\n Women-owned businesses employ over 12.2 million employees nationwide and represent nearly 40 percent of all U.S. businesses, or over 14 million businesses in total, accounting for $2.7 trillion in revenue, according to the Wells Fargo research.<\/p>\n Advocating for Women-Owned Businesses<\/strong><\/p>\n The meeting\u2019s focus was on how medium-sized women-owned businesses can effectively advocate for their issues in both state capitals and in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n In the past, federal lawmakers have attended The Group\u2019s meetings, including Congressional House Member Rep. J. Luis Correa<\/a> (D-CA), a staff member from Rep. Derek Tran\u2019s (D-CA) office,<\/a> and staff members from Rep. Young Kim\u2019s<\/a> (R-CA) office.<\/p>\n One key point emphasized at the meeting was the upcoming bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus<\/a> meeting in Washington, D.C., on March 17, and the importance of women-owned businesses being represented.<\/p>\n The March 17 Caucus meeting will feature two newly announced co-chairpersons, Rep. Correa<\/a> and Claudia Tenney<\/a> (R-NY). Tenney was previously a Caucus\u2019 co-chair. The Caucus meeting will be held in the Capitol Building\u2019s Visitor Center. The theme is: \u201cPricing and Profits: Affordability Strategies for Family-Owned Businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n Bovino kicked-off the meeting at Global<\/a> by asking each of the 19 attendees for a brief review of their businesses and key legislative issues of concern.
