\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n How women navigate the challenges and opportunities in their family-operated businesses is the subject of a new podcast on \u201cWoman in Family Business,\u201d hosted by Family Enterprise USA.<\/span><\/p>\n The first of two podcasts on the subject is now available on Spotify and other podcast platforms.<\/a><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_video _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” src=”https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6GifIzUgOrE” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_video][et_pb_text admin_label=”2″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ text_font=”||||||||” text_font_size=”16px” background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n The first podcast <\/span>features <\/span>Paula Lafferty, Chief Executive Officer of SnoTemp, a family-owned and operated temperature controlled public warehousing company in Oregon, and Lauren Doll-Sheeder, Managing Partner,<\/strong> Doll Distributing, a third-generation Council Bluffs, Iowa, beverage distribution company.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The podcast discussion covers the barriers, challenges, and opportunities women face<\/a> in family-owned businesses in the past, present, and future. It\u2019s hosted by Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA, advocates for generationally-owned family businesses.<\/span> She is also President of<\/span> a sister organization, Policy and Taxation Group, which advocates for successful individuals and family offices.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhat builds the most credibility for women in family-owned businesses is that you need to show employees you worked your way to the top,\u201d says Lafferty in the podcast.<\/span><\/p>\n SnoTemp has two facilities located Oregon and is a key link for local food processors and consumers in the area. In business since 1957, the company has 1,370,000 sq. ft. of temperature-controlled storage and offers supply chain services for local, national, and international customers.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cGetting training early in all facets of the business was really key for me and the support I received from our partners was very helpful,\u201d says Doll-Sheeder.<\/span><\/p>\n Doll Distributing is a third-generation beverage distribution company with and 330 employees. Last year, Doll expanded into Eastern Iowa and now offers distribution services in 44 Iowa counties and eight Minnesota counties.<\/span><\/p>\n The podcast, part of a series called \u201cThe Voice of Family Business on Capitol Hill,\u201d is airing on Spotify and other podcast platforms.<\/a><\/p>\n One of the key challenges, Soldano points out in the episode, is when a family business needs to make the transition to the next generation of leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOur ownership recognized early on how important navigating the leadership transition is, especially in the case of a death,\u201d says Lafferty during the discussion. \u201cLeadership transition is more nuanced than one can imagine.
