Podcast host, Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA, discusses this important topic with Aylward, Managing Director, EY Family Enterprise Business Services and other next generation transition challenges facing America\u2019s multi-generational family businesses.<\/p>\n Soldano leads the discussion on the crucial need to \u201cstress test\u201d family wealth transition plans, and how business growth and operating in multiple states can cause \u201ccracks\u201d in transition plans.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re seeing great interest in stress testing current wealth transfer plans to make sure plans meet long-term goals,\u201d says Alyward in the podcast. \u201cIt\u2019s important to look for gaps and make improvements before an estate event occurs.\u201d<\/p>\n One tool used in family wealth transition plans, says Alyward, is to create a \u201cgap analysis\u201d covering five areas: governance communication, asset allocation, privacy, liquidity, and compliance and reporting.<\/p>\n In the podcast<\/a>, the discussion details top concerns and solutions for making sure family transition plans are updated.<\/p>\n \u201cWe see the biggest problems coming from uncoordinated division of asset ownership and poor governance structure,\u201d says the EY family enterprise expert. \u201cOther concerns are a lack of communication planning, poor liquidity planning, and limited next generation education and preparation.\u201d<\/p>\n Alyward proposes creating a \u201cDay One Playbook,\u201d which takes the uncertainty out of sudden family transition events.
