In a new Family Enterprise USA podcast two Capitol Hill insiders, former Senator Mark Begich and former Congressman Jack Kingston, take a sharp look at the state of play in this year\u2019s complex Presidential election cycle.<\/p>\n
The podcast, airing now on Spotify <\/a>and other podcast platforms, takes an insider\u2019s view on what\u2019s happening within the political structures of both parties, including their views on the inevitably Biden\/Trump rematch, state elections, and on new and expiring tax legislation<\/a> affecting family businesses.<\/p>\n Kingston, a former member of the House of Representatives from Georgia, is now a principal with the law firm Squire Patton Boggs. Begich, a former Democrat Senator from Alaska and former Mayor of Anchorage, is a strategic consulting advisor with the Brownstein law firm. Both are based in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n The podcast is part of a series focused on America\u2019s multi-generational family businesses. <\/a>The series is called, \u201cThe Voice of Family Business on Capitol Hill,\u201d and is hosted by Pat Soldano, President of bipartisan Family Enterprise USA and Policy and Taxation Group, both advocacy groups for family businesses, clients of family offices, and successful individuals.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery week things shift in politics and in politics every week is a lifetime,\u201d says Begich kicking off the discussion. \u201cWe have a lot of lifetimes before now and November.\u201d<\/p>\n Soldano leads the political experts through the many twists and turns of this year\u2019s elections, and what impact they will have on family businesses in 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cWashington is a reflection of the electorate,\u201d says Kingston. \u201cThe electorate is sending 535 members to Washington, so sometimes it\u2019s easy to point fingers at Washington, but it\u2019s really about those in the country voting for their views.\u201d<\/p>\n Whether the Republicans or Democrats will win the House and Senate is also discussed in detail by the former legislators, including such factors as retirements, changing district maps, and incumbent advantages.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the House will be positive for Democrats,\u201d Begich tells Soldano. \u201cBut they are in trouble on the Senate side if the President is not re-elected.\u201d<\/p>\n In the podcast, Kingston sees a \u201crough load\u201d for Republicans, but agrees with Begich on Senate races.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThe next two cycles are big challenges for the Republicans,\u201d Kingston says. \u201cI do think it\u2019s a rough load right now for Democrats in the Senate with the retirement of Joe Manchin, that alone could change it.\u201d<\/p>\n During the interview, Soldano asks both Begich and Kingston <\/a>how the elections may affect tax policies<\/a> and if continuing to educate Congressional leaders on the importance of family businesses will make a difference.<\/p>\n \u201cA big chunk of employment, job creation, innovation, and local business is done by family business and yet they pay a much higher tax rate<\/a>,\u201d says Begich. \u201cThey are not the ones laying off five thousand or ten thousand workers, they are holding on to their employees, paying them well, and the tax policies<\/a> are hurting them,\u201d he says. \u201cThese family businesses are built from the ground up and Democrats need to be more educated about this issue.\u201d<\/p>\n In Georgia, Kingston talks about the importance of getting involved in politics to make a difference.<\/p>\n \u201cI always say that businesspeople need to get involved in politics,\u201d he says. \u201cUnions are out there, teachers are out there, lawyers are out there, but businesspeople are taking care of their businesses, but that gives you a political disadvantage,\u201d he says. \u201cI always say there are three C\u2019s to politics, and that\u2019s being a candidate, contributing to a candidate, or campaigning for a candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n To hear both Begich and Kingston\u2019s views on where the political election scene is right how hear the discussion on Spotify, and other major podcast platforms, such as Apple iTunes and TuneIn.<\/p>\n Subscribers will receive alerts as future shows are posted. \u00a0To find it on Spotify go to: <\/span>https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/73pcpIL2NfPi11WG0FZdyX?si=xIww0QSoS_OHMdOeR9qXhw<\/a><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider divider_style=”dotted” disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.19.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text disabled_on=”off|off|off” admin_label=”Become a member text” _builder_version=”4.21.0″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” link_option_url=”https:\/\/familyenterpriseusa.com\/donate-2\/” global_module=”5822″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n As we prepare for what promises to be a pivotal year for America, we’re asking you to consider becoming a member.<\/p>\n The need for fact-based reporting of issues important to multi generational businesses<\/a> and protecting a lifetime of savings<\/a> has never been greater.
