Family-sponsored business ventures \u2013 those owned and managed by families or
\ngroups of relatives — dominate the economic landscape of the world, simultaneously fostering economic growth and social stability. Because so many of these ventures are new and growing businesses, examining the role of family sponsorship is important in understanding entrepreneurial processes.<\/p>\n
With the support of the George and Robin Raymond Family Business Institute, researchers with the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor project conducted a pretest in 10 of the GEM 2002 countries. Businesses operating in countries with varying developmental levels — Australia, Brazil, Hungary, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States — were
\nsurveyed so as toallow the examination of findings across a diverse sample.<\/p>\n
